Project Overview

Gonzalez Shah Smith provided MEP/FP engineering services for the Engineering Classroom and Research Building at Texas A&M University at Galveston.

The three-story facility expands academic and research space for engineering programs on the Galveston campus, including the Freshman Engineering Program, Computer Science and Engineering, Interdisciplinary Engineering, Ocean Engineering, and Marine Engineering Technology. The building includes administrative offices, classrooms, active learning spaces, flexible research laboratories, group study areas, and collaboration spaces that support both teaching and faculty-led research.

A major feature of the building is its state-of-the-art maker space, where students can design, fabricate, and test physical prototypes using tools and equipment that support electronics and mechanical development. The facility also includes an aquatic research lab with a large water tank designed to support experiments involving underwater robotics, propulsion, and other marine engineering applications.

The Engineering Classroom and Research Building strengthens Texas A&M Galveston's engineering programs by expanding opportunities for hands-on learning, applied research, and interdisciplinary collaboration while providing space to support continued enrollment and program growth.
