December 2025Gonzalez Shah Smith provided MEP/FP engineering services for the Center for Brain Health at UT Health San Antonio.
The $100 million, 103,000-square-foot facility brings specialty care, diagnostics, therapy, research, and caregiver support together in one location. Home to the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer's and Neurodegenerative Diseases and the Department of Neurology, the center supports patients with Alzheimer's disease, dementia, Parkinson's disease, ALS, stroke, and other neurological conditions.
The facility includes 91 exam, testing, and treatment rooms, 12 infusion chairs, therapy and wellness spaces, and dedicated areas for neuropsychology, genetic counseling, geriatric psychiatry, nutrition, and physical, occupational, speech, and swallow therapy. Patient and family spaces include quiet lounges and rooms for meditation, art, music, support groups, and educational programs.
A major feature of the center is Texas' first Siemens MAGNETOM 7-Tesla Terra.X MRI system, providing ultra-high-resolution brain imaging for clinical care and research. A pedestrian bridge connects the facility to the Medical Arts and Research Center, strengthening connections across UT Health San Antonio's clinical and research campus.
The Center for Brain Health brings physicians, researchers, therapists, patients, and families together in an integrated environment focused on advancing neurological care, research, and support.
